Colorado employers added a subdued 1,500 nonfarm jobs last month and the state’s unemployment rate ticked up to 3.2% from 3.1% in August, according to a monthly update from the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment Friday.“Given the stronger-than-expected gains in U.S. employment earlier this month and the projected strong GDP growth in Q3, I thought there would be much stronger job growth in the September data than was reported,” said Broomfield economist Gary Horvath in an email. At the same time, Horvath acknowledged many economists are calling for weaker hiring over the next six months, so September’s gains are “good news” in that job losses are holding off.Colorado had 6,100 fewer people describing themselves as employed last month versus a gain of 3,600 in the number of unemployed people. That indicates more people were dropping out of the labor force. The state’s unemployment rate remains below the U.S. rate of 3.8%.The 1,500 jo...Ken Buck says he’s received 4 death threats, eviction notice over his House speaker votes

U.S. Rep. Ken Buck has received four death threats and is being evicted from one of his Colorado congressional offices because of his votes in the ongoing House speaker saga, he told NBC News on Thursday.Buck is one of a growing group of House Republicans opposing Ohio U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan’s quest to become House speaker. Jordan has repeatedly failed to win enough Republican votes to ascend to the position this week, and Republican holdouts say they’ve received a barrage of messages and threats seeking to persuade them to support Jordan, who has baselessly questioned the results of the 2020 election and is a favorite of the party’s right wing.Buck, who was not available for an interview Thursday night or early Friday, told NBC that his opposition to Jordan led to the eviction notice and to the threats.“Everybody in the (House Republican) conference is getting this,” he said. “So it’s natural. Family members have been approached and threatened, all...Evidence suggests families received fake ashes from Colorado funeral home where 189 bodies were found

COLORADO SPRINGS — A Colorado funeral home where 189 decaying bodies were discovered this month appears to have fabricated cremation records and may have given families fake ashes, according to information gathered by The Associated Press from customers and crematories. The families that did business with Return to Nature Funeral Home — including a relative who spoke to The Denver Post last week — fear their loved ones weren’t cremated at all and instead could be among the yet unidentified corpses authorities discovered after responding to a report of an “abhorrent smell.”“My mom’s last wish was for her remains to be scattered in a place she loved, not rotting away in a building,” said Tanya Wilson, who believes the ashes she spread in Hawaii in August were fake. “Any peace that we had, thinking that we honored her wishes, you know, was just completely ripped away from us.”RELATED: Grisly discoveries at Colorado funeral homes fuel push for tougher state regulationRe...Detectives seize 2 pounds of fentanyl, assault rifle from Camarillo woman, VCSO says
