D.C. residents receiving government assistance to help buy groceries are supposed to see their benefits boosted heading into 2024 — but now, according to officials, it is unclear if that will happen.For over 145,000 SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) recipients in D.C., the “Give SNAP a Raise” bill passed by the D.C. Council in March was meant to boost benefits by 10% between January and September.The nearly $40 million of funding for that increase comes from the city’s excess revenue, but now, Mayor Muriel Bowser is second-guessing where she wants that money to go.“Should we advance a nine month benefit that goes away? Or should we work on something that’s more sustainable for more people? (AP) — Antonio Reeves scored 27 points to lead No. 8 Kentucky to a 96-70 win over Illinois State on Friday night.Playing its first game since a 95-76 win over rival Louisville on Dec. 21, Kentucky (10-2) made 11 3-pointers — four by Reeves — and got 36 points from its bench.Reeves began his career at Illinois State where he scored 1,195 points from 2019-22. (KDVR) — A Thornton Topgolf employee is now being charged with murder and attempted murder after police say he clocked out of work early, waited in the parking lot and shot at two of his coworkers, killing one of them.The family of the victim, 22-year-old Bryce Holden, is speaking out for the first time since the situation unfolded two days before Christmas. “Our son was rarely ever serious. DENVER (KDVR) — Denver is just two days from meeting its goal to get 1,000 people off the streets by the end of 2023. FOX31 checked in with Mayor Mike Johnston for an update.As of Friday, 932 people had been moved indoors as part of the initiative, and 911 of them were still indoors. More than half have been sheltered for less than 30 days, while a little over a quarter have gotten permanent housing.Johnston told FOX31 that the city will meet its goal by Sunday night. Gunfire tore through an occupied home in a Northeast Miami-Dade neighborhood, sources said.According to law enforcement sources, someone fired gunshots through the window of an occupied home in the area of Northeast 139th Street and Second Court, Friday night.Sources said there was a family inside when the bullets pierced through the window of that home. A South Florida family is heartbroken after they returned home last weekend to find their jewelry box broken into and their expensive jewelry missing.Eve and her mother asked not to show their faces on camera when they spoke with 7News about the Dec. 23 theft at their Pembroke Pines home.“It’s like a piece of our family ripped away from us,” said Eve. Eve and her mother said that someone came into their gated community, broke into their home through a part that has no cameras and stole the jewelry.The victims said the perpetrators took off with a diamond necklace, a rose gold ring, a wedding set, two gold necklaces and a bracelet, among other items. Authorities are investigating an officer-involved shooting in Fairhaven on Friday night that left an officer injured and a former New Bedford Deputy Fire Chief dead, officials announced.Officers responding to a report of an intoxicated male at 125 Sconticut Neck Road around 5 p.m. when shots were exchanged between Paul Coderre and officers, according to the Fairhaven Police Department.Coderre was killed.A responding officer was wounded in the leg and taken to an area hospital to be treated for their injuries. They have since been released.In a statement, New Bedford Mayor Job Mitchell said, “This evening’s fatal shooting in Fairhaven was tragic in every sense.
